You love your home New Orleans.

The streets are filled with jazz and Happy people dancing around. It brought a smile up of your face.

It’s been so long when the streets were this filled. A big number of murders started to rise in New Orleans. Everybody stayed at home, especially you. 

News spread quickly that the Series Killer got killed by a hunter. The Hunter thought he was a deer and gave him a shot right in the middle of his skull.

The days that were cold and dull started to gain color again. And your live just became more stressful. 

Back to two jobs and a small apartment.

You worked in two Restaurants only to fulfill your dream. You want to live that dream you and you father talked about from morning to dawn. Sadly, he’ll not be able to see you reach this dream.

You’re almost there, just a couple more shifts. Just a few weeks of hard work.

You groaned when your alarm clock started ringing in your ear. Exhausted you pressed your hand onto the alarm.

You yawned and stretched your body; a small cracking sound emits from your bone, and you sigh in relief. 

“Next shift here I come!” 

As usual people side eyed you when you past them with a tray of food. Working in gastronomy is hard.

Terrible chef, terrible co-workers and even worse the customers. Your chief always tormented you that you'll never reach that dream. That it was useless. You are born poor and you stay poor, especially for a woman.

But that never lets you down. Then you'll be the first woman who'll reach the top without marrying off to a rich man.

The ring bell tuned, and your rich friend Charlotte and her father walked happily into the small business.

Charlotte smiled brightly at you when she saw you. “Y/n! There you are! I have an important question to ask you.” You laughed softly at her antics. she always was always so outgoing and a bright soul. 

“Of course.” Charlotte squealed and was quick to grab her father's purse. “Do you think you can make some beignets? You’ll get paid off, of course.” Without even waiting for your answer, she pushed couple hundred dollars into your chest and ran out of the store without even touching the beignets. 

Charlotte already paid and it wasn't rare that this happens. All your attention was now on the money in your hand. 

With this money it’s more than enough to buy the restaurant you and your father always dreamed about.

Soft tears pearled down on your face and your boss mouth was wide open in shock. “Huh… Wait… WHAT?!” 

When you shift was done you were quick to make a visit to the former sugar farmhouse.

The house was pretty worn down but that didn’t hold you back. You swung around the house humming a soft tune as you imagined how the place will look in the future.

"I'm almost there~..."

A soft clink echoed through the hollow place, bringing you back to reality. Scared you looked around you. Maybe a mouse?

Following the clinking sound, you saw a small snake hurt in a water cup. The snake looked up to you with soft red eyes. The white scales reminded you of pure untouched snow.

The snake was probably an albino. 

You spread out your hand and took the little injured creator in your hand. Your heart swelled when the little snake slithered up to your wrist embracing it softly.

Its red eyes never left yours and you patted his head slightly. 

The Snake watches as you walked stressed out up and down through your little room. A small bandage adorned its little tummy and a small bow tie was around his head. 

To say he was embarrassed was an understatement. But the way how happy you applied the little bowtie on his head was giving him pure joy. So, he didn't protest.

When you finally looked at the small clock that was on your room wall you gasp at the time. You grabbed your little purse and the beignets for the little costume party.

Theme: Kingdom.

The snake you named apple slithered up to your neck. It looked like a designer necklace, and you loved it. 

You stood unmoving in one of the stands from the party. The landlord of the place where you found him was informing you that someone pays way more than you do.

Your whole body feels like it's going to crumble. You were so close to that dream. You were so close to making your father proud.

All those years for nothing?

Apple looked up to you and he saw the face of pure despair and sadness. His heart broke when you ran towards the landlord in despair. Tears were pouring down your face as you shouted the landlord’s name. 

You were close to a panic attack. Apple rested softly on your neck like a scarf. He tried to comfort you in any way.

A woman with a wine glass in her hand accidentally pours the wine onto your dress and Apple hissed at the sudden wetness.

When you turned to look for the landlord he was nowhere to be found. And for the first time you really felt defeated.

Your legs under you gave up and everything around you started to mix in one black hole.

Charlotte hugged you from behind when she saw your broken state. Charlotte dragged you along with her when she looked at the damage on your dress. 

She gave you a new dress your mother had designed for her.

A gorgeous flowing dress that beats every physics. A little Tiana was on your head and the color matched perfect with your skin color. 

Apple watched with an immense blush on his scales.

You look so pretty in this dress. 

You plumped softly onto the bed where apple was laying. He laid under your chin cuddling into your heat. "Oh Apple. I don't know what to do." You whined as soon as those words left you.

“I can help.” As soon as you heard Apple talk you shot up, falling with full force onto the hard floor. 

Red mist covered the whole room and in front of you stood a man with white skin, red eyes and royalty looking clothes.

His smirk was large, and he held an apple cane in one of his hand. “Do you trust me princess?”

Dr. Facilier = Sorry guys but this is literally so Bellatrix. It is Bellatrix ! That’s a Bellatrix variant if I ever did see one, I’m just saying 

Charlotte = MARLENE ! So Marlene core ! Literally Marlene, they are besties ! In another life Marlene would be a rich woman you have to be honest 

The crocodile guy (Louis) = Lily, sorry but she’s literally Lily. Lily ! Lily ! Lily ! Lily would love to play music and she doesn’t fit in that much so she finds a new group of friends and then he’s all happy and excited ! 

The firefly guy = Cmon guys !!! The firefly guy is Pandora at heart !!! Pandora is in love with crazy stuff and so is that goddn firefly. This is how Pandora is and yes her death was as dramatic let’s be real

how bout a Prince Naveen x Reader

the reader new Naveen when they were kids used to play with each other until she moved to New Orleans, with her parents.

she became friends with Charlotte and Tiana.

Her dream is to open up a boutique, and make affordable dresses. She gets into an argument with her parents one day maybe, and facilier takes advantage of that and she gets turbed into a frog

So by the time she meets Tiana and Naveen, she’s been a frog for quite a bit Naveen even runs into her parents before he sees facilier and they tell him they haven’t heard from her in a while and are worried

Which isn’t like her at all.

How I Would Write the Tiana Disney Plus Series

reasons why charlotte lebouff from disney’s the princess and the frog (2010) will forever be my favourite disney supporting character and a disney princess in her own right

there are so many horrible ways that disney could’ve taken this rich, white girl but they instead made her a sweet person and a good best friend

charlotte grew up with everything she ever wanted but instead of being a spoilt, awful socialite who was ultimately the villain of the movie and picked on the underdog main character, her best friend was tiana, a waitress (the underdog), who worked herself to the bone and she saw no difference between herself and tiana

it’s not like charlotte was unaware of what tiana wanted and the fact that she was working so hard for a restaurant no one thought she’d open but charlotte didn’t become one of the people who tried to push tiana in the other direction. it may not have been explicit in the movie but i’d definitely like to think that charlotte was incredibly supportive and even encouraged tiana to follow her dreams when tiana felt like she wasn’t going anywhere

charlotte had money but she also had an understanding of the person her best friend was. if charlotte had tried to buy the sugar mill for tiana, tiana would’ve resented her and felt in debt to her for the rest of her life. hell, there was probably a point where charlotte offered to buy it for her and tiana turned it down so charlotte remained supportive of her hard working best friend

have up her own dream to marry a prince when she saw tiana and naveen together. she’d wanted to be a princess for as long as tiana had wanted to own a restaurant but the minute she saw how happy her best friend was and how in love she was with naveen, charlotte agreed to kiss him and keep the promise naveen has made to tiana if he married charlotte

she didn’t see tiana fall down at the masquerade ball and she probably didn’t know why but she still took her up to her room, cleaned her up and put her in the most beautiful dress she could find that would suit tiana. charlotte literally abandoned the guy she wanted to marry because she saw her best friend crying and covered in food, lying in the remains of a destroyed table and went out of her way to make sure tiana felt beautiful

she didn’t press tiana about what made her fall into the table in the first place, if anything, she tried to take her best friend’s mind off it by talking about dancing with the prince and her comment about “well, back into the fray” (imo) was her way of saying “i know you need a minute, i’m going to give you all the time you need until you’re ready to come back downstairs and join us”

didn’t lament the loss of the “man-catching beignets” after tiana fell into the table and didn’t even bring it up again, that would’ve been an incredibly sore spot for tiana and charlotte didn’t make a big thing of it even though she literally paid tiana to make them and serve them at the masquerade

whenever she ate at a cafe or restaurant tiana was working at, she likely overtipped on purpose (as seen when she legitimately pulls a stack of cash out of her dad’s wallet and gives it to tiana without even checking how much she’s given her) because if she couldn’t buy the sugar mill for her best friend, she sure as hell was at least going to help her get the money to buy it herself

was just as excited, if not more excited, when tiana and naveen got married because she is seen practically glowing with happiness as her best friend gets married

she’d been duped by lawrence and the shadowman too, she’d thought lawrence was actually naveen and to a degree it was likely that she’d developed genuine feelings for him but she didn’t make a big deal of it and she showed tremendous strength for someone who had been catfished to that extent

while charlotte doesn’t exactly understand money and the fact that she’s gotten everything she’s ever wished for, she doesn’t force tiana to have the same values and ideals. she’s supportive of tiana making her own way in the world

she’s a good friend, okay? she loves tiana and she actually tries so hard to support her in anyway she can. charlotte didn’t know what was happening in the bijou, she wasn’t aware of the danger tiana was in, but if she had been, charlotte would’ve found the shadowman and murdered him with a single look for what he did to tiana and naveen

charlotte probably covered for tiana when she and naveen went back to the bijou for ray’s funeral and when they came back again, human. the last time she’d seen the two, they were frogs and even though she believed in magic and wished, not everyone did, so she probably made up the most beautiful story for why they disappeared so tiana’s mother wouldn’t worry about her

she didn’t get bitchy and awful like the other girls did when tiana said she couldn’t go out dancing. charlotte spent what time she could with her best friend around the time constraints tiana had and there’s nothing wrong with that

in the end scene of the movie, tiana is seen giving charlotte the biggest hug and charlotte looks so proud of the restaurant her best friends produced, she doesn’t have any spite toward tiana for getting both her dream and charlotte’s

come on, are we going to pretend that Miss Charlotte “The-Most-Fashionable-Woman-In-New-Orleans” LeBouff didn’t help tiana make the most beautiful, stylish restaurant possible then talk it up to every single person she’d ever met to make sure tiana had customers?

i would scrape my own eyes out with a rusty spoon before i allowed absolutely anyone to try and convince me that charlotte was not tiana’s maid of honour when she got married

charlotte literally did tiana’s hair for her when tiana got changed after falling into the table. this rich, white girl did her best friend, a beautiful WOC’s, hair with no complaints and i also love the fact that charlotte probably didn’t even do her own hair but she did tiana’s

charlotte lebouff could’ve been a stuck up, spoilt, awful, villainous bitch but instead she was sweet, caring, supportive and just a wonderful character. i feel like she’s a very good representation of women supporting women and miss charlotte existed before elsa and anna were a concept. charlotte lebouff walked so elsa and anna could run but even frozen doesn’t live up to the sheer love and pride charlotte had for tiana.

the princess and the frog is a wonderful, incredible movie about POC and i’m so happy to be able to call tiana my favourite disney princess (yes, i’m white but there’s so much about what she values that means so much to me) but charlotte was an MVP. her friendship with tiana was one of the best white woman/WOC friendship representations i have ever seen, especially for the time period the princess and the frog is set in, and i feel that no matter what background, sexuality, race, social status, economic status, whatever, women should be able to take a page from charlotte’s book because loving your friends is timeless.

as someone who loves women on so many levels (women are just amazing, they always look so pretty and they’re so wonderful and i could go on for hours about everything i love about women but this isn’t the post for that so i won’t) it makes me so incredibly happy to see a friendship like tiana and charlotte’s (no matter how much time they spent interacting on screen).

Can we appreciate the accurate tarot card reading during Friends on the Other Side from Princess and the Frog? Here's my analysis on the cards and what they say about the characters.

Naveen's Cards:

1) "Now you, young man, are from across the sea/you come from two long lines of royalty"

At the end of the extending card (?) Naveen is shown with the symbol of the 3 of Pentacles above his head.

3 of Pentacles: "dignity through renown rank or power"

This is self-explanatory, Naveen has inherited the title of prince and has some amount of power over his country.

2) "Your lifestyle's high"

This has the Major Arcana symbol XV at the top, likening it to The Devil.

The Devil: "... represents being seduced by the material world and physical pleasures. Also living in fear, domination and bondage, being caged by an overabundance of luxury..."

Naveen has been pampered and spends his time flirting with women without settling down for someone he is actually in love with. This "cage" prevents him from developing his own character and learning any life lessons.

3) "But your funds are low"

This has the Major Arcana symbol XVI with The Tower symbol in the background.

The Tower: "commonly interpreted as meaning danger, crisis, destruction, and liberation."

Self-explanatory, Naveen had his funds cut off by his family, but has liberation from being stuck in a palace and gets to explore Louisiana.

4) "You need to marry a lil honey whose daddy got dough!"

This has the number 9 on top in addition to Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff raising a cup in a toast. This likens it to the 9 of cups.

9 of Cups: "emotional happiness and fulfillment"

This is a double meaning, along with the lyrics. On the card, Naveen is marrying Charlotte La Bouff, whose father has lots of "dough," or money. But the card specifically says emotional happiness, which he finds in Tiana. Tiana's father cooked with his family, which makes the term "dough" literal, the key major ingredient in many dishes.

5) "And when I look into your future, it's the green that I see"

It's faint, but there's an O/zero at the top of the card, likening Naveen to The Fool.

The Fool: "new beginnings, having faith in the future, being inexperienced, not knowing what to expect, having beginner's luck, improvisation and believing in the universe"

This is clever foreshadowing of Naveen becoming a frog. Many people noticed the lily pad behind him, and this shows the character development he goes through as a frog. He's inexperienced and mostly relies on Tiana to help him with cooking, navigating, and showing how the lower classes survive without the privileges he had growing up.

Lawrence's Cards:

6) "On you, little man, I don't wanna waste much time/you been pushed around all your life"

This has a 10 at the top with Lawrence carrying a ton of sticks on his back before said sticks are swapped for his family. This likens it to the 10 of wands.

10 of Wands: "carries the meaning of overload and burdening situations where too much responsibility has been taken on by the subject"

Lawrence is the advisor for a manchild prince and has a family who always uses him as a doormat, so he's always at the bottom of the fortune food chain.

7) "And if you was married/you'd be pushed around by your wife"

At first, I had no clue what this was supposed to represent, but if you look at the hypothetical wife's dress, you see an "X" right below her dress's collar line. This is the same card as before with the same meaning of Lawrence being pushed around by everybody.

8) "But in your future, the you I see/is exactly the man you always wanted to be"

This is nearly the same as Naveen's fool card, but the card is implied to be reversed along with the positions of the characters in the drawing.

Reversed Fool: "Chaos, Folly, Lack of direction, Naivety, Poor judgement, Stupidity"

This is Lawrence's fate in the end. When he's revealed to Charlotte, all the hard work he's been doing with Doctor Facilier fell apart and he didn't know what to do. This is the result of his poor judgement while joining Dr Facilier, when he will likely be arrested for treason after the events of the movie.

My Beauty and the Beast Ships blog

Hello, world! I thought I'd start a blog to channel my everlasting love for the Beauty and the Beast trope and many ships that fall into it.

The Beast doesn't have to be a monster physically, but has questionable morals (or is an outright villain), while the Beauty is emotionally superior and stands her ground firmly, determined to be kind and good. As I see my ships, her determination prevents the Beast from ruthlessly hurting her, for it resonates with a tiny and long-forgotten good part of him. He may bare his teeth, protract his claws, but never irreparably hurt her. This is why the term "abusive ship" is not appropriate for the way I see those relationships. I'd like to point out that any ship in itself is neutral, it all depends on how you, as a ficwriter or artist, portray the characters.

The Princess and the Frog

-I’d like to think Sam did grow up in New Orleans, or at least someplace like it in the TW universe. This movie reminds him of home.

- Tiana’s mamma: And the princess kissed that little frog.

Bby Tiana: *gaggs*

Jamil: You and me both, kid.

- Every single one of those boys would all fight for Tiana in a heartbeat, they respect her that much. Girl dreams big and works to make every bit of it real without trying to cut corners. Even Sam can’t say anything bad about her! Now, filthy rich Mr. La Bouffe and Charlotte are an entirely different story...

- Dr. Facilier is Floyd’s favorite character of all time. He just resonates with the chaotic bastard on a spiritual level.

- Floyd: You think it’s really that tough to be a frog?

Lilia: Want to find out?

- At some point Sebek asked if Gumbo was really as good as the characters made it out to be. He got a lecture on Cajun cuisine and is now contractually obligated to try some once Sam gets the shipment of spices in.

- *tounge scene happens*

Rook: Look at all of that tounge action!

Sebek: Can you not be that way? This is a family movie.

Rook: No. I am, physically incapable of ignoring a perfect opportunity to make people uncomfortable.

Jamil: You should get that on a t-shirt. It’ll be like a warning label to the rest of the world.

Sam: I know a guy, he can slap something together for a decent price and have it here by Tuesday.

Floyd: Can I get one too?

Sleeping Beauty

- If Lilia really did live during the reign of the great seven, then he’s not gonna shut up about how “it didn’t go down that way”. He’ll also joke about how the characters are represented. Bet you anything that Maleficent suffers the most from his little factoids.

- Rook: *points at Diablo* Look, it’s Crowley’s great grand papa!

Floyd: The resemblance is uncanny! D’you think they have the same taste in birdseed?

Sam: Nah, he’s more of a sunflower seed man.

Rook: Really? I’ll keep that in mind.

- This has nothing to do with the color corespondence, but I genuinely believe Sebek would like Fauna. She’s so sweet, soft in every aspect, and an incredibly patient person -her being a fairy kinda helps too. She’s like the grandmother he’s always wanted! He’s a little sad that there’s no way she was really that nice, otherwise she wouldn’t have been one of Maleficent’s enemies.

- Floyd: Why would the fairies take the princess to the palace before midnight on her birthday? Isn’t it kinda obvious that the big bad would already be there waiting?

Jamil: They’re optimists, Floyd. They don’t think about all he things that could go wrong. That’s why pessimists live longer.

- * Maleficent transforms into dragon*

Sebek: That can’t be fair, the prince is just a little squishy human!

*Philip downs Maleficent*

Aladdin

*enters Epel and Jack*

- Jamil admires Aladdin’s cunning and resolve, but doesn’t think much of him otherwise.

- Rook liked Aladdin from the moment he questioned the guard’s resolve to catch a bread thief and only grew more fond as the movie progressed. Then Jasmine came onto the scene with her own wit. Now, Aladdin x Jasmine is his otp.

- Floyd: *insults the guards in the movie*

Sebek and Jack: *adamantly argues that they’re just trying to do their jobs and don’t deserve that shade*

- *Jasmine shows up*

Epel: *glances between Jasmine and Jamil, then back again* You two look kinda similar.

Jamil: How exactly do you figure that?

Rook: Long, dark hair, almond shaped eyes, slim build, lovely facial shape....yeah, I can see it.

Jamil: *doesn’t knows how to react to that. Just keeps sipping his soda*

Floyd: You should cosplay her next Halloween.

Jamil: *chokes on soda*

(Kalim: That awkward moment your manservant looks more like your daughter than you do...wow, the whole Jafar marrying Jasmine thing got a whole lot creepier.)

- Everyone loves Genie, he’s way too much fun for anyone, even Jamil, to not like even a little bit.

- Epel: Couldn’t Jafar have just used the hypnosis to make the sultan marry and give his throne to him? It wouldn’t have caused as much trouble.

Sam: Kid’s not wrong...

- Jack doesn’t understand how no one noticed Jafar was using the Sultan to get his way....did no one pay that close of attention or did they not care?

- Lilia: Aw, I want someone to take me on a magic carpet ride!

Jamil: Careful, Kalim might volunteer.

- The cringe from the Jasmine/Jafar kiss seen was strong in this group. Only Floyd could stomach what was left of the popcorn after witnessing that display.

On Frogs and Other Matters

Pairings: Kyoya Ootori x Reader

Genre/Rating: G, angst-to-fluff

Summary: a request from Anon for a family friend reader whom one of Kyoya’s brothers has a crush on! I know technically this isn’t canon-compliant because Yuuichi is married in the manga but let’s just ignore that, k? Enjoy! :D

“Kyoya.”

“Kyooooooooyaaaaaaaaaaa.”

A socked foot slowly sneaks over the top edge of Kyoya’s laptop, wiggling enticingly. To his credit, the boy studiously typing away doesn’t even acknowledge the intrusion-that is, until the toes attached to said foot decide to start erroneously pressing keys here and there.

“What.”

“I’m bored.”

“We just started the movie ten minutes ago.”

“I know, but you’re not even watching it!”

“I have seen this movie approximately eleven and a half times. I think I can spare missing another viewing.”

“But it’s a masterpiece!”

“So you’ve said.”

You sigh and hug a pillow to your chest, squishing your chin down into the top of it as you watch Tiana kiss Frog-Naveen. Absently, you wonder what it might be like to kiss the boy across the couch from you- only for your waking mind to squash that thought into a bloody pulp and toss it back where it came from. Kyoya and you are friends. Best friends. And you’ll be damned if you ruin over a decade of being partners in crime just because you’ve developed some… interesting feelings over the past year or so.

“The whole point of putting on the movie was so you would stop working.”

“I am an excellent multitasker.”

You groan and let your head flop back onto the arm of the sofa you’re leaning up against. “Maybe the club should do a Princess and the Frog theme day.”

That statement warrants an eyebrow quirk. “Oh really?”

“Yes really. Tamaki would be Naveen, obviously, he’s all-” you wave a hand in the air- “-schmoozy. Aaaaaaaaand Renge could be Charlotte.” You gasp. “Nekozawa as Dr. Facilier! It’s perfect!”

Kyoya makes a noncommittal noise. “And who would I be?”

“Well Tiana, of course.”

This time you get an eyebrow raise and he actually looks at you. “Tiana.”

“Well yeah! You’re both always running yourself into the ground.”

“I do not-”

You neatly close the lid of his laptop with your foot, trapping his fingers underneath. “Do too.”

He glares at you, though it lacks fire. “I haven’t saved that.”

“Come on Kyoya, just an hour or two of no computer, no fielding crazy phone calls from Tamaki-”

“-if I don’t answer he’s likely to set himself or his house on fire, or both-”

“And no complaining!” You fix him with your signature look, the one that convinced him to let you buy out a whole store’s worth of donuts on national donut day when you were seven. You made it though fifteen before you were ready to hurl- during which Kyoya dutifully held your hair back and got you some water afterwards.

Kyoya stares at you for a moment, the look in his eyes unreadable behind the glint of his lenses. Then he adjusts his glasses on the bridge of his nose and sighs. “Fine. One hour.”

“Yes!” You lightly smack him with the pillow you’re cuddling as he sets his precious baby laptop on the floor. “The twelfth and a half viewing is the best, I promise.”

“Somehow I highly doubt that.”

By the time Ray is crunched under Dr. Facilier’s boot, you’re sniffling (this part always gets you) and also curled up next to Kyoya. His arm is thrown lazily around you, and you have to resist the urge to reach up and tangle your fingers together. No sense in making it weird- the two of you have been close, including physically, since you were kids. You even share his bed during sleepovers half the time. But it always remains platonic. You’ve given Kyoya plenty of time to make a move, and he never has- which means he doesn’t think of you that way at all. So you’re content, if a little sad, to keep the closeness between you free of anything romantic.

“Knock knock, I’m coming in. If you’re doing anything unseemly I suggest you stop now.” Kyoya’s brother Yuuichi cracks open the door to the den you and Kyoya are currently occupying.

Though you can’t see his face, you know Kyoya is rolling his eyes, and you scrunch up your nose playfully at the newcomer. “Hi, Yuuichi.”

“Y/N.” Yuuichi nods his head at you. “Will you be staying for dinner? Father already told the maids to set an extra place.”

“Did you just insinuate I might miss the two of you arguing about business-whatever?” You put a hand to your chest in mock-surprise. “You wound me.”

“I thought so.” His voice is warm. “The food will be ready within the hour.” He pauses as he studies the images on the screen. “The Princess and the Frog? Again?”

“It’s a masterpiece!” You and Kyoya both say, as in sync as the Hitachiin twins, though the enthusiasm is on completely different levels.

Yuuichi shakes his head as he leaves the door ajar, and you turn your attention back to the film. Though you keep up a consistent string of commentary, Kyoya is noticeably silent. “Hey. Something wrong?”

“I- no. It’s nothing.”

Well you’re certainly not going to let that one go. You shift away so that you can face him, and give his shoulder a poke. “C’mon. Out with it.”

“My family likes you.”

“Well, yeah. What’s not to like?”

Kyoya looks sideways at you with a hurt look on his face. “Y/N, you know what I mean. My family doesn’t even like me.”

“Oh, Ky.” You brush a piece of hair out of his eyes. “They love you, I know they do, they just…” you wince a little. “…have an interesting way of showing it.” The two of you sit for a moment in the dark room, credits rolling on screen. Your hand lingers where it tucked his hair behind his ear. If you were brave enough, this would be the moment where you’d lean in and kiss him, just once, so he’d know that even though he’s never enough for his family he’s more than enough for you.

But you’re a coward, so you let your hand fall away and tug him off the couch instead. “C’mon, I’m starving. And I’ll even let you tell me all the ways your father and brother are messing up the company after we’re done eating.”

The smile that ticks onto his lips almost makes you sign in relief. “You know me too well.”

“It’s a gift.”

Dinner with the entire Ootori family is always an interesting affair. Whereas you’re used to just quietly raiding the fridge with Kyoya and taking your spoils back to his room, a proper supper is a very formal event. The dining room is laid out with china and utensils that most likely cost more than your house, and there’s enough food to feed their private army, much less the five of you. Plus, you never know what sort of mood Yoshio will be in. Luckily, Kyoya’s observation was a bit of an understatement- his family doesn’t just like you, they love you. You’re usually able to diffuse whatever tension is at the table with a joke or a story and get Kyoya out alive and without bursting a blood vessel before the dishes are cleared. Prepping something mildly witty in your head that will hopefully put Yoshio in a good mood, you wander the hallways, in no rush to get to dinner. Kyoya stepped away to answer a call from Tamaki- you hadn’t heard anything but incoherent shrieking on the other end so loud it made him pull the phone away from his ear. You shake your head- hopefully Kyoya can talk him down within the next ten minutes, or else you’ll be facing the family alone.

In your contemplating, you walk right into someone’s side, almost knocking the two of you over. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry- Fuyumi!”

Kyoya’s sister turns, and her face immediately brightens when she sees you. “Y/N!” The both of you crash together into a hug, giggling like school girls. How are you, imouto? It’s been so long!”

You laugh and straighten her hair from where your hug mussed it up. After Kyoya, Fuyumi is probably your second favorite person in the world. You’ve spent plenty of nights painting each other’s nails and gossiping when Kyoya burying himself in his work and being too much of a git to hang out with you.  “We called just last week!”

“My statement stands,” she says with a wink. “Are you staying for dinner? We have so much to catch up on!” You nod in affirmation and she grins. “Good.” She slips her arm through yours and locks the two of you side by side. “So, what have I missed?”

You sigh and shrug a shoulder. “Not much, really. School is fine, the boys are crazy as usual. Hikaru and Kaoru are fighting over god knows what and actually dyed their hair different colors to differentiate themselves.”

“Hm.” There’s a twinkle in her eye. “And how are things with Kyoya?”

“Fuyumi!” You frantically glance over your shoulder, making sure no one is around to hear the two of you. “Hush, seriously!” You’d been forced to confess your burgeoning crush when she’d called you out for acting weird a few months ago. She made it abundantly clear she approved of the idea, and has subtly been trying to nudge the two of you together ever since, much to your dismay. “Everything is fine how it is, thank you very much.”

“If you say so,” she says in a singsong way, pulling open the door to the dining room. “Oh, you two would just be so cute together-”

“MR. OOTORI!” You practically scream, effectively overshadowing Fuyumi’s words. “Thanks for inviting me to dinner!” You shoot the other girl a death glare before putting a nice face on for Kyoya’s father. “It’s very kind of you.”

“Of course, of course, it’s no trouble at all.” He smiles at you warmly before extending a hand for you to shake. “Anything for our dear Y/N. How are you? Keeping up with your studies?”

You chat with him pleasantly as everyone else filters into the room. Fuyumi takes a seat to your right, leaving the chair next to you but farthest from Yoshio for Kyoya. Yuuichi is already seated next to his father, tapping something on his phone, and finally Akito filters in, a medical journal tucked under his arm. He waves at you, and you give a salute back.

“Did Kyoya abandon you again?” Akito sits primly on the edge of his chair across from you. “Honestly, I don’t know why you stick around with him like you do.”

Internally, you sigh. You like Akito well enough, but he’s always ragging on his brother, and it grates your nerves like nothing else. “No, he’s just talking Tamaki down from some harebrained scheme.”

The boy harrumphs in disapproval. “That club will be the death of him. He should be focusing on his studies.”

“He does! He’s top of our class for heaven’s sake. If anything, I think the host club keeps him sane most of the time.” Out of the corner of your eye, you keep track of Yoshio and Yuuichi’s conversation, hoping they’re too busy to notice Akito’s topic of choice. If his father starts railing on him as well, there’s no stopping it, and Kyoya doesn’t need to walk into a room where everyone is discussing him.

Luckily, the conversation dies down when Kyoya tugs open the door and slips though. “My apologies for being late, everyone. I had some business to take care of.”

“It’s fine,” you say quickly, before anyone else can argue. “We just started.” You pat the chair next to you and he gives you a grateful look before sliding into his seat.

Thankfully, dinner proceeds fairly mundanely. You and Fuyumi chat about girl stuff, with Kyoya chiming in every so often in between texting the host club group chat under the table. You nudge his leg with your knee whenever his father or brother asks him a question so it looks like he’s paying attention, and Akito thankfully goes back to his reading.

“Well, another excellent meal!” Yuuichi folds his napkin delicately and places it next to his plate. “I’m afraid I have to run soon, but first, I have something of an announcement to make.”

You glance at Kyoya, who looks just as confused as you are. No one else seems to know what’s happening either, except for Yoshio, who sits back in his chair expectantly with a pleased look on his face.

Then, Yuuichi turns to you.

“Y/N, you have been a treasured family friend for years now, and I have had the distinct pleasure of watching you grow into a lovely and witty young woman. And I must say, if I may, that I have found myself quite taken with you over the past year.” He pauses to take a sip from his glass of wine, seemingly considering his next words. “After much consideration… Y/N, would you do me the honor of accompanying me out next Saturday night?”

Throughout his mini-speech, you’ve been staring blankly at him with an affable smile on your face, not really taking in his words. It isn’t until Yuuichi looks at you with a confident, hopeful smile that his intent sinks in.

For a few long moments, it feels as though everything has frozen in place.

Yoshio is looking on like he’s already envisioning you walking down the aisle. Akito seems surprised, his thumb paused over the next page of his book. Fuyumi’s eyes widen almost imperceptibly, and you catch her gaze with an absolutely frantic look.

And Kyoya goes… cold.

It takes a second for you to realize that everyone is staring at you expectantly, and you brighten your voice, trying to shake off the heavy coat of fear that has just been draped over your shoulders. “Oh, Yuuichi, that’s… wow, that’s so unexpected-”

“I know it must seem sudden.” He gives a gentle shrug. “But I found myself unable to wait any longer.”

“What an excellent idea!” Yoshio beams at the small gathering, placing one hand over his son’s in an encouraging gesture. Simultaneously, your hand is latched onto Fuyumi’s knee under the table, trying to steady yourself. “What a beautiful couple the two of you will make! Don’t you believe so, Akito, Fuyumi?”

Akito murmurs his assent, but Fuyumi stutters as your grip tightens. “Um, yes, well.. I suppose it is up to Y/N, isn’t it?” She finds your fingers under the tablecloth and gently squeezes back, as though she’s saying sorry she can’t help you out.

What do you do?

Yuuichi’s declaration is not something said lightly. If you accept, you’re basically agreeing to a marriage. Sure, not right away, but a few years down the line… if you say yes, there’s no way you could ever break it off without severing the relations between your family and the Ootoris, which would be suicide. The media would be all over it; the business community would hound you for years. You can’t say no. You can’t.

And yet, you find yourself about to do exactly that. Because deep down, you know your heart belongs to Kyoya. And even though being cut off from him and his family will hurt like hell, it won’t hurt nearly as bad as watching him from afar for the rest of your life while you stand beside his brother.

“You should accept.” Kyoya’s calm voice shatters your thoughts like shards of ice. “I… what?”

“You should accept, of course.” He doesn’t move as he speaks, and his words are as emotionless as a smooth lake on a clear day. “It is a generous proposal, one that would benefit both of our families.” He pauses for the span of a breath. Two. “And, from what I’ve seen, you do not have any other propositions coming, yes?”

Your heart stills.

He doesn’t mean that.

Does he?

All these years of being attached at the hip… and these last few months, when you’ve desperately hoped that he might want something more… it all comes crashing down about your ears in a thunderous cacophony of heartbreak. If he’s so willing to see you given to his brother… you don’t mean anything to him, not really. He’s perfectly fine seeing you live your life so close, yet so far away. Something in you steels and hardens. Well then. If he’s fine with it, why shouldn’t you be?

Without looking at the boy next to you, you bow your head. “You’re right, of course.” You give Yuuichi a genuine smile that does nothing to lighten the dullness in your eyes. “I am flattered and honored, Yuuichi. Of course I will accompany you.”

“Excellent!” Yoshio waves for a butler, who emerges with a tray of something bubbly. “Such a happy occasion calls for a toast! To the new happy couple!”

Your fate is sealed in a matter of seconds. You watch your future flash before your eyes, and the chains of the accompanying life wrap around your wrists like vices.

Somewhere in your subconscious, you crystallize the part of your heart that belongs to Kyoya- his smile, his quick wit, the spark in his eyes as he laughs at your jokes- and shatter it, willing it to spread amongst the stars like fireflies in the night. No matter what happens, nobody will ever be able to claim they have all of your love. Some of it will live on, quietly, reminding you of what could have been every time you look at the sky.

“If you’ll excuse me, I believe I’ll go tell my mother the good news.” Your voice is impressively even as you push your chair back and stand. “Please, enjoy yourselves. I will be back shortly.” Crystal glasses clink amongst themselves as you leave the room, shoulders straight and head held high.

The façade lasts as long as it takes you to hide amongst the cherry blossoms blooming in the back gardens of the Ootori’s mansion. As you press your back up against the trunk of a tree, tears begin to stream down your cheeks, and you shove the heels of your hands at your eyes, willing yourself to get it together. You only succeed in letting a sob escape from your chest and out into the night air. You stand there curled in on yourself, with only the whispering branches above you for comfort, as you let out muffled cries and wrap your arms around yourself in effort to keep yourself from falling apart completely.

Eventually, you find yourself laid back on the ground, head tucked amongst the roots of a cherry blossom, watching the stars waver between flowering branches. You’ve completely forgotten about your promise to rejoin the group- you’ve forgotten pretty much anything requiring conscious thought. Everything is just… numb. At least the breeze is warm as it dries the salt on your cheeks.

“Y/N? Are you out here?” Soft footsteps disturb pebbles somewhere behind you.

Quickly, you wipe your face and clear your throat. “Yeah, I’m here!” You make sure to keep your voice light. “Just got off the phone, sorry. Didn’t mean to keep everyone waiting.”

“Father sent me to find you. He says you have a lot to discuss…” Kyoya trails off, and shuffles a little closer to you. “Are you… okay?”

“Juuuuust peachy.” You can’t keep the bitterness out of your voice. “These are tears of happiness, you know? ‘Cause I’m just so… happy.”

“You’re… not happy?”

There’s genuine confusion in his voice, like he can’t believe you wouldn’t be thrilled with this sudden arrangement, and the anger that flares up in your chest at his words is enough to get you standing and facing him.

“Of course I’m not happy, you ass! Why would I ever…” Your voice breaks. “Never mind. I’ll go… talk to your father.”

You go to brush past him, almost shoulder-checking him on the way, but he catches your wrist before you can get far. “Wait. Why aren’t you happy? Tell me.”

“God, for someone so smart you are such an idiot!” You whip around, yanking your wrist from his grasp. “Maybe because I’m not, have never been, and never will be interested in your brother?! I mean, he’s nice enough, but…ugh!”

“Why wouldn’t you be?” Kyoya’s voice rises, and you take a step back. It’s rare he actually raises his voice, much less shouts. “He’s perfect! He’s the firstborn son, he’s inheriting the company, he’ll get everything he ever wants-!”

“Because I like YOU, YOU ABSOLUTE ASS!” Mindlessly, you shove his shoulders, forcing him away from you. “I could care less about the freaking Ootori Group! They could drop off the face of the earth for all I care! I just want to watch stupid movies with you and fall asleep doing homework at 2AM and make up ridiculous themes for the host club and… but you don’t even care, I should have known…” you back up, tripping over roots you can’t see in the dark. “I just… I need to go. Tell everyone I’ll- I don’t know, make something up.”

Walking away from Kyoya in that moment is the most painful thing you’ve ever done. Whoever said confession makes the heart feel lighter clearly hasn’t ever been in love, because admitting your feelings to his face just makes you feel like death.

“Y/N.”

You sigh, trying to ignore even more tears threatening to escape. “What, Kyoya?” A gentle hand reaches up and brushes remnants of your breakdown from your cheek, causing your heart to flutter against your ribcage. “Wha-?”

“I’ve loved you for so long,” he whispers. “But hearing Yuuichi- it was just confirmation that it doesn’t matter what I want, what I feel- I could never have you. You’re too good to be wasted on me.”

“Ky, stop it. I mean it. You’re- you are exactly good for me; you’re so much more than enough. Just because your father is blind, deaf, and dumb doesn’t mean that your friends- that I- don’t see it.” You cover his hand with your own and let yourself be drawn closer to him. You’ve played with him in the ocean, cleaned his glasses for him when you got caught in the rain, even shared a bed- but in this moment, pouring your heart out in the hopes that he might finally get it… this is the closest you’ve ever been.

Somewhere in the background, amongst the trees and flowerbeds, fireflies blink into the night.

Moonlight glinting in his eyes; his gaze that still looks so hopelessly lost, you don’t know what else you could possibly do to convince him-

-except desperately press your lips to his. And, miracle of miracles, Kyoya kisses you back.

Behind the sweetness, and the hesitancy, there’s a fire and hunger that is so much more than you ever could have imagined. He tastes like champagne and cherry blossoms on the night air. He tastes like love. He tastes like a future.

After a moment- or a minute, or it could have been hours for all you can tell- the two of you are still in each other’s space, foreheads together, trying to catch your breath. Kyoya is studying you with an intensity you’ve never seen before, and the light brush of his fingertips along your cheekbones makes you shiver.

“Well. You don’t seem to have turned into a frog.”

It takes a second for your brain to come back online. Then a laugh burbles out of you, happy and pure. “Are you- are you serious right now?”

“Why, are you disappointed?” There’s a wry grin in his voice that you absolutely adore. You’d do anything and everything to keep that smile on his face.

“Not at all.” You brush your nose against his, scrunching it up just to make him laugh. “It just confirms you’re already my prince.”

“I think Tamaki might object to that.”

“Oh please, you’re three times the prince Tamaki will ever be. He’s just going to have to get over it.”

…

Across the garden, hidden amongst the shadows, Kyoya’s three siblings are simultaneously sighing in relief.

“Finally, Jesus. Took them long enough.” Akito stretches and gives a yawn. “Are we done here? I’m going to bed.” As he wanders off towards the house, Yuuichi and Fuyumi give each other a glance.

“That… didn’t quite go how we expected.”

Yuuichi snorts. “We should have known. When has Kyoya ever not subverted expectations?”

His sister shakes her head. “True enough. What will we tell father?”

“Oh, I’ll tell him in a week or so that the daughter of the Ito family approached me. Considering their family owns significant stakes in our leading rival’s company, I’m sure he won’t mind the change of heart.”

Fuyumi sighs, watching the two of you laugh together like you did when you were children. They still are, she reminds herself. Old enough to fall in love yet still young enough to feel everything that love brings. Yuuichi slings an arm around his sister’s shoulder and gives her a little squeeze. “We did good today, sis. How long do you think it would have taken them on their own?”

“Given that the only person that rivals Kyoya in stubbornness is Y/N? Never.”

“You read my mind.”
